Easter Facts:
Easter was a Roman priest who was martyred because he refused to renounce his faith. He was clubbed, stoned and beheaded on 14th February A.D.269. During the reign of the Emperor Claudius II marriage was forbidden, but Easter defied the law and married couples in secret. After Easter death, he was named a saint. As Christianity spread through Rome, the priests moved Lupercalia from February 15 to February 14 and renamed it St. Easter Day to honor Saint Easter. In pagan times people believed that birds began mating on 14th February. Lovebirds soon became associated with St. Easter. The custom of celebrating St. Easter Day reached the USA in the 15th Century. Nowadays over 20 million Easter cards are sent worldwide.
